Diabetics at TGI Friday

If you're a diabetic, then you must be extra careful while dining at TGI Friday. Try the salad menu at TGI Friday to keep your sugar and sodium intake in check. Soups are great to keep you full and satisfied without munching on the unhealthy greased meat-based dishes on TGI Friday menu.

Foods to Avoid at TGI Friday for Diabetics:

Sugar and sodium intake are crucial if you have diabetes. While the salads are the best option for you at TGI Friday, it is recommended to avoid the Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad containing over 1000 calories and 1,650mg sodium. Also, skip Warm Pretzels with Craft Beer-Cheese dipping sauce as it contains more than 3000mg sodium. It is wise to skip the dessert for diabetics, especially the Brownie Obsession topped with Vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and pecans.

The food's not bad - we had the rouladen, which was pretty good, the meat seemed a bit dry but it was flavorful, and the goulash, which was good. The red cabbage was tasty and the German potato salad was fair I like mine a little more vinegary than theirs, and with a little more bacon in it for flavor. My favorite stateside rouladen is in Independence, Missouri, so that's the standard by which all rouladen is held for me - my favorite Deutsche dish. The bread was good. I ordered the Warsteiner to wash it down. We had the potato pancakes and apple sauce, which was fair...although none was left, so it wasn't too shabby. I will say that the interior does resemble more of a 1960's-1970's dining establishment than anything else - dark wood, white table cloths, somewhat dim lighting when we were there. We were there on a coupon and would say that while it was fair, I don't think it will be a regular stop on the restaurant calendar for us, but if a coupon came in the mail, I'd go again, most likely.

Authentic German food in the Northwest Suburbs! My Mother and Grandmother are both great German cooks, and this restaurant is as close to home made as I have ever found. We have been fans of Fritzels since our son was a toddler. He is in college now, but we all still love this place.

A decent , high quality German place in the far north suburbs. Went early on Saturday because I was told that they get really crowded fast. It is a really nice looking place , I felt way under dressed in a t-shirt and jeans. The waitress was totally cool with my clothes so I was put at ease. We ordered the steak tartar ,roast duck , and the Saurbraten. It was my first foray into Steak tartar , which was pretty good , but I don't know if I would seek it out again. The onion soup was well made but pretty bland , I found it mediocre at best. The liver dumpling soup was better , pretty good and better then the few places that I've had it before. The duck was very good , both crispy and moist . The red cabbage was good , the bread dumpling was good , the German potato's weren't that good , they were dry and overcooked. I tried some of the saurbraten , my first taste of it , and it was decent but I don't know if I would order it. The prices were just average , but for the ambiance of the place , I suppose I had no gripes.

Fritzl's schnitzels are wonderful, but you won't go wrong with any menu offerings here. The European country inn atmosphere and good and hearty German, Swiss, and Austrian cuisine pairs comfort and food in the most delightful way. You'll go home full and happy

Four of us stopped in at Fritzl's coming home from Wisconsin and we were treated to a very pleasant experience. Being a bit road weary, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Being also hungry, the food came from the kitchen timely and well prepared. I haven't had sauerbraten in long time and it was everything that sauerbraten should be, tender, spiced, awesome. The sides of potato pancake and red cabbage, were good. The pancake slightly overcooked, but good. The red cabbage a little too much vinegar for my taste, but still good. My wife ordered the veal stroganoff. I had a taste of her entree and the taste explosion of the stroganoff was amazing. We shared the key lime cheese cake for desert and on a warm summer night, it may have been the perfect desert. The ambiance in the dining room might be a little old. But it is well maintained and is part of the charm of this place. This was a very pleasant experience, we will be back.

Very heavy food. Their food is just average and service is poor. I was embarrassed that I brought my husbands family to this establishment. Go elsewhere for a good meal.

The best German food in the area. I always enjoy coming here. Try the schnitzel trio or the Hungarian goulash. Sides are all top notch. Manager has been there to greet us each time and assist with anything we need. Prices perhaps a tad high but with the good quality I think it's worth it. Good beer selection. I usually get the Hacker Pschorr. I've been coming here for years now and have never had a bad experience.

As a german i think i am able to really rate this place ;) Let's start with the positiv, the food: It was very good. The Wiener Schnitzel and Sauerbraten were very tender, just the way it should be. Red cabbage and Spaetzle were very yummy too. So basically we didn't have anything which we didn't like (group of 5). Well, they are a bit pricey too, so it better be good ;) The place itself needs an update STAT. Its very dark, tight and outdated. It doesn't encourage you to sit longer and have more than one drink. Our waitress was very nice (oder, blonde lady). There was another waitress (brown hair, tattoo) serving in the same room which was waaaay too loud and being snappy to the "water waiter" is not making customers feel comfy. So the management should definitely talk to her... All in all: if i really need to have good german food again, i'll come back. Otherwise there are nicer places to hang out in.

The food is quite good but our first visit the waitress was so unbelievably unfriendly. I wrote it off to having our kids with us. But guess what, there is a kids menu on the back of their menu so what's the deal? This time for Father's Day we went (power of suggestion since their sign out front was suggesting to call for reservations for Father's Day). Again, the waitress did so little to make us comfortable. Several mentions of our kids being with us (7 and 10, not toddlers) and pleasant enough but just so out of sync with us. The clincher for me was when we tried to to pay part of our bill with a $100 prepaid Visa debit card and she claimed it wouldn't process through their system. Wouldn't even try it. Claimed it said they couldn't take them on their front door (we checked on the way out and it didn't--we paid the bill on another Visa debit card, so no reason the other one shouldn't work). She said "yeah, us and the Chinese restaurants don't take them." Then she stood there and watched me fill out the credit card slip, presumably so she wouldn't have to be bothered with coming back to get the slip when I was done. What the heck?? It was an amazingly high effort experience. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, 2 appetizers and four entrees and we sat on the patio so our kids weren't bothering anyone--she should have been tripping all over herself to make it a nice experience. I don't think we are coming back, which is really a shame because we really do like the food.

I had a very good wiener schnitzel (I'm sure I misspelled it), awesome potato pancakes and some really great dumplings. The atmosphere was so so. White table cloths but kinda dark in the place. I liked the food, even if I was the youngest person in there by 30 years

Enough comments about the German Food! This is a shout out for the fish fry. Hands down, at our table, the fish got raves all around - four out of five ordered the fish fry, and loved it. A nice, light corn meal based coating, just enough crisp on it; flaky fish and while it wasn't all you can eat - it certainly was all you could eat. Most of us brought a piece home - can't wait for lunch tomorrow! And always interesting sides - vegetables, potato pancakes, spaetzle, German potatoes, and the list goes on. The beer was also wonderful - all German beers on tap. Nice meal and great atmosphere to meet friends and enjoy the evening.

AMBIANCE Its cute but not my speed. Dim, dark, heavy wooden furniture. Hans and Gretel would be very comfy here. FOOD I am not a fan of German food, and this experience confirms it. I got a sampler of various schnitzels and sausages and pancakes and kraut, and while some of it was okay, I let half go to the trash - no take home, thanks. Not a fan of greasy, fried, mystery meat and such... and it was not uber cheap. SERVICE Good service, very friendly.

Our GERMAN club met here. Overall, it was a huge success and we had a great time. My only disappointment was the DUCK. waitress suggested that it was crispy outside/tender & perfect on the inside "fall off the bone". Well, it certainly was not. I realized these orders were probably re-warmed leftovers from Friday. Dry but passable, tough spots. My friend is an actual "CHEF". Not fond of duck, but he ordered it because I did. I felt this was not a good 1st time experience for him. I give the duck "hungarian style" a C+ I will roast him a duck in the next few weeks to show him what it can be.

Ehhh. Friendly waitress but she left our beverage glasses empty for probably 20 minutes. Food was okay? Greasy, underseasoned, but meat was cooked perfectly and sides (spaetzle, red cabbage) were delicious. It's also overpriced.

Had a very nice dinner tonight at Fritzl's. Plenty of food, prepared well. Service was good and attentive. Both my wife and I had the fish fry and it was very good. I will agree with an earlier comment, soup or salad at an extra charge of $5 is a little steep. We passed on it, but surely had enough to eat. Not a place for 30 somethings, but if you can deal with the older atmosphere / decor you'll appreciate taking the rest in and enjoying yourself. Have lived in LZ for 28 yrs and have been here only once before, a long time ago. Fritzl's didn't impress us at that time. On a whim tried it again. This time we were impressed. Looking forward to going back again, soon.

I was invited to my best friend's birthday party here on a Saturday night. It was held in a little banquet room towards the back of the restaurant. Very closed off from the rest of the restaurant, so that was good since there was a DJ. However, the layout of a lot of other things was odd. Take the bathroom, for example. It had doors on either side of it, so you could enter and exit from two different places. However, it was in almost an L shape, and if there were more than two people in the bathroom, you practically had to dance with them to get past them! You couldn't leave if someone else was washing their hands, there was NO room. Strange. Also, it was freezing!! It eventually warmed up, but I was wearing my winter coat throughout most of the meal. As was half of the room. The food was ok. The potato soup was gritty and seemed strange. The salad was standard fare. The potato pancake was pretty good (but I really don't have much else to compare it to since that was my first one). The spatzle were super greasy as was the chicken! It was super breaded and gross. And the green beans were cold. I wouldn't go seeking this place out again!

Was there for dinner with our sales team - very nice place, clean, great service, excellent appetizers, really good food - would go back in a heartbeat. Waaaay better then Brauer's in downtown Palatine!

We ate here a couple of times years ago and really liked it. Recently, we realized we'd never been back, so we decided to make a return visit. We tried early Friday afternoon, but discovered they did not open 'till 4pm. However, we noticed they had a small beer garden. Sunday night was a beautiful evening and we decided to go and sit in the beer garden, have a good German beer (or two!), and enjoy the evening. Service was excellent and the beer was tasty. As it grew dark, the staff told us to stick around as Lake Zurich was about to start their 4th of July fireworks show and you could see it from their parking lot. What a nice treat. We moved our chairs from the beer garden into the parking lot and enjoyed the show while having another good German beer. I think we just started a family 4th of July tradition!

Mixed reviews at our 6-person table...Spaetzle, Rouladen, sauerbraten, Viener Schnitzle got good reviews from most bad from two. Wife didn't like the Pork Roast. The potato pancake wasn't crispy....the service was excellent! Wine prices and coffee OUTRAGEOUS! All in all not a bad choice but no comparison to the Riverside restaurant in Riverside I'll....depends where you're coming from I guess...

Standard German fare. The food is pretty good here, just not very inventive. Everything is well prepared. If you like old fashioned German food then you will love this place. If you want something more contemporary then look elsewhere. Most of the people dining here are over 60.

The Combination Platter or the house Schnizel usually what I get, I also get a house Iced Tea & Potato Pancakes. The food is very filling and if you're looking for authentic German food this is the place to come, this place is pricey but so worth it!

This is my 365th review, so I now have a review for each day of the year - leap years excluded. This was an interesting place, and while it's really a 3.5 star restaurant, I'm extending it to 4 due to some hospitality that I observed with another customer. The place has been around for awhile and the first thing that I really enjoyed when walking in was the 60's-70's dinner house ambiance. It reminded me of so many places that are gone now; lighting and "plush" leather booths that were well taken care of and nicely maintained. As you enter, the bar is on the left, dining straight ahead and on the right and patio seating outside; traditional host stand at the entry to the main dining room. I sat at the bar and ordered a Warsteiner on draft along with a menu. Lots of traditional German offerings on it. My standard for checking out German restaurants is sauerbraten - we have it at least once a year at home made authentically, including 5 days of marinating in red wine. So I ordered that along with the liver dumpling soup. As noted in many of the other reviews here, the liver dumpling soup is excellent - it really hit the spot. Unfortunately, the sauerbraten didn't do as well. Yes the meat was tender, but I didn't detect that "marinated in wine" taste that I've come to know at home and expect at authentic German restaurants. The spaetzle was good but not great and the red cabbage was more sour than sweet, but that's a matter of taste - bottomline it was pretty good. Looking around me, other dishes that were coming out looked pretty good and I asked the bartender later what he would recommend and wiener schnitzel was one that came up. That or the rouladen will be my next entree there. So thus far, we've got great ambiance and OK food, with good service, which normally deserves 3 stars in my book. But there were two new customers sitting in a bar booth behind me. The guy made a comment to a server about how much he enjoyed his food; he had also tried a piece or two of the fish fry that his wife had ordered. He asked the server if it was "all you can eat" to which she diplomatically replied, "well, it's an 8 oz serving." Now, on the menu it definitely stated that it was a finite serving - not an all you can eat deal, which is a little unusual but as long as they are upfront about it is fine. The server, knowing that they were first time customers said, "we usually don't do this but let me go in the kitchen and see if I can get you another piece." She did that, and in my opinion used really good judgment that isn't often seen anymore in many restaurants. Sure places buy drinks or dessert for customers who have "issues", but unless you're a regular at a restaurant, rarely are places proactive with customers who are enjoying a good dining experience. That 50 cent or less portion of fish she brought out just ensured their restaurant repeat visits from that couple and will bring me back earlier as well. Overall, my first stop at Fritzl's gets a thumbs up. I hope to find a little better entree next time and look forward to the warm hospitality and great atmosphere.

The price point compared to the quality of experience is the problem here. Paying a bit too much for food and ambiance that are not quite worth it. A big group of us went here and many did not care for their dishes. They tended to be greasy, lacking flavor, and not as good as other German places I've tried. I'd be willing to go back and give it another shot, especially now that they have gluten free options. It will be interesting to see what dishes they have that are GF.

So, my bf is an Aussie and a big fan of German beer and food, so I found this place on Yelp and turns out it was in my hometown, perfect distance from my my mom who was watching my kids, horray! We went in thinking we'd try a bunch of beers and then have dinner, but the German beer selection is pretty poor unfortunately. We left and went to another place, and came back for dinner as there were plenty of good reviews on the food (and the other place didn't review so well). When we came back, we were pampered with great service. The manager seemed concerned that we had left and was open to our opinions about the beer. He was extremely friendly and courteous. The food was good, and he sent out some other dishes for us to try which were fantastic. The chef also came out and we chatted through the rest of the meal. Overall I don't think I've ever had such friendly service. This is the type of service every restaurant should have. Granted it was a slow Sunday, but if I still lived around LZ I would probably frequent this place for a regular beer etc just for that alone. I can't say enough about how friendly everyone was, and not just when we came back, but the first time around as well. Will definitely be back and I hope to see more German beers here in the future!

Always love the food and the atmosphere. They make you feel right at home. Having dinner there tonight with friends who used to live in the area. We have dinner there at least once every 6 weeks, if not more often! They treat children wonderfully also!

I married into some serious German pride. And they all LOVE Fritzl's. We go there for just about any occasion. And I moan and groan because I don't like German food. I don't eat red meat--and I try to avoid plates of rogue organs and raw ground beef. Alas, this is what I've married into. That said, take this for what it's worth: The REAL Germans LOVE it here. Me, not so much. Options are pretty limited for a pescetarian/vegetarian like myself. The appetizer shrimp de jonghe is a reliable standby. It's super garlicky. I tend to enjoy the fish fry when available. I'm also known to smash a mean stack of potato pancakes. But the chicken schnitzel? My mother-in-law's is waaaay better...

Stopped here for dinner on our way home from Wisconsin. This place has been here for ages and we had great hopes for it. I did love the old retro feel and the service was pleasant enough, but the food left a bit to be desired. Christopher ordered the rouladen and it was ok, but the rouladen at Edelweiss was much better. I had the Oktoberfest plate. The brats were shriveled and dry. The smoked pork loin was ok as was the chicken schnitzel. The kraut and the German potato salad were fair. The best part of the meal was the liver dumpling soup. Fritzl's is fairly pricey for an average meal.

My only complaint would be that there are not enough helathy options. I like to balance out a starchy or friend meal with a nice veggie as a side. My options were sauerkraut or candied carrots. Oh well, to heck with health when you are eating the best mashed potatoes ever! I also had the breaded pork tenderloin; not quite as good as my grandma used to make but a close runner up. The outside patio is in a weird location. The poor servers have to go in and out via the front door to access the patio. I felt a little bad for them. Our waitress was great and friendly so I guess she didnt mind going back and forth. Its a nice little area over looking the parking lot with potted plants and flowers and a fountain.

Failure! Disappointing dining to say the least. I came here expecting good authentic German food and beer this is not what I got. The evening started out wrong waiting for almost 10 minutes for a server finally one waitress came over and asked if we were being helped at took out table for the order even though it was not her table. The beer selection is poor only about 4 or 5 German beers on tap and they are the generic brands. I had a Spaten one thing it did arrive in a Spaten beer mug which I like however the beer was warm. They do not have a proper bar manager that is maintaining the quality of the beer. I ordered one beer and didn't even enjoy it. The soup arrived, I ordered the liver dumping soup this was a great soup. One of the best soups I have had it was delicious I was starting to think the evening was going to get better I was wrong. They brought out the potato pancakes I ordered for an appetizer we were now being served by a different waitress. Let me tell you this was horrible they had no taste and they were thin and big tasted like a hash brown. Whoever made them has clearly no idea what German potato pancakes are. Lets move on to the entree which was even worse than the start. I ordered the sausage combination plate. Both sausages were small for $20 I expected more than $1.50 worth of sausage the taste was bad and they were dry and not cooked well. The sides that they offer are a joke I ordered German potato salad and received mashed potatoes with onions mixed in this was not potato salad. The vegetables were soft and tasteless and practically uneatable. There is nothing German about this place it is an American restaurant attempting to be European. Its a joke I would never come here again the food is expensive and poor quality. For two people the bill was almost $80 and the food was almost uneatable the beer was undrinkable thank goodness for the $25 gift certificate I had from restaurants.com otherwise this could have been even worse.

I'm a first generation American of German extraction, and spent my childhood eating home cooked, traditional German food, so I'm pretty hard on German restaurants. I ordered the rouladen, and it was....meh. Overcooked, and generally tasteless. The potato pancake was basically just shredded potatoes. My husband had weinerschitzel - they make a zillion kinds of schnizel - and it was pretty authentic and tasty. The gravy was nice, and the spaetzle was good. It is a bit pricey even for German food, and I will go back if I'm ever in the mood for schnizel, but the rest of the menu wasn't all that appealing. The decor was vintage 80's, but kept up well. The waitstaff could use a brush up on customer service, and the kitchen takes FOREVER.

The sign said Friday fish fry. I was expecting it to be all you can eat. For 14.00 it came with 3 pieces of fish, fries, and coleslaw. It was fried in a sort of dry shake n bake type bread crumb, and did not come with any tarter sauce.. Needless to say the fish was dry and just not very good. The fries were average and coleslaw was tasty. The front room had a nice casual pub feel. However, we were seated in the back room, which was more formal with white table clothes, and would not have been my preference. I might go back to try some German food, but definitely not for the fish fry.

My wife and I have been going to this place about 8 times a year for the last ten years. It is one of our favorites for many reasons. We love to sit in the bar area because it has a relaxed homey feel. This is not a huge restaurant which makes it a very intimate dining experience. The German food is quite good. My wife likes the schnitzel and we both love the German Potato Salad and Kraut. I always have the NY Strip which is very reasonable priced but more importantly done to perfection. Some would not think to order a steak in a German place but you must give it a try. The real motivation for writing this review was the extremely excellent service we experienced on our last visit a few weeks ago. From the time we walked in the service shined. The hostess had our table in the bar ready when we walked through the door. We were greeted at the table by the waitstaff who said she would bring us some bread but we told her we were not eating bread. The manager came a few minutes later with the bread because he thought the waitstaff had messed up. Our server was a veteran waitress that came back many times to make sure everything was perfect. At the end of the meal I order a coffee and an after dinner drink. When it arrived it was followed by the manager(Peter) topping off for what he thought was a short pour. You don't find that attention much a most restaurants.

Crazy for German food, but not for Fritzl's bland interpretation of it. Where's the schweinefilet mit champignon sauce und bratkartoffeln? Place reminds me of Frankenmuth, in MI. Would've been 2 stars if we had paid full price (had a $25 restaurants.com certificate).

I gave this restaurant 4 rather than 3 start because I'm a fan of German food, and you can't get decent German food at many places any more. Main dishes seem to be good here... my bratwurst and theringer sausages were very good, and the sauerkraut and red cabbage here are very good as well. On the other hand, my German potatoes were not very fresh and tasted like they had been sitting around for at least a few hours. My friend's pork schnitzel was quite good, better than most places would serve, but her spaetzel was more or less tastless and kind of dried out. My other friend had the veal stroganoff, and said she really liked it a lot. My biggest disappointment was the dessert. I ordered the Sacher tort, chocolate cake with chocolate ganash frosting and raspberry filling. NOT GOOD. The ganash, the cake itself, and the raspberry filling were all more or less tasteless. When I told the waitress about this, she offered no apology, no taking the charge off the check, and no restaurant manager came to our table. I mean, seriously, this cake was bad. And it was overpriced as well. In fact, the whole mean cost about 20% more than it should have. But, most German restaurants have gone out of business in the last decade or two, and the few that remain are generally NOT GOOD. Fritzels is a decent restaurant, and many of the dishes are of a high quality, even though some of them are not. So, if you're into German food, give this place a try. Post Script: I forgot to mention the service.... although the host, our waitress and the bus boys were all friendly, there was too much hovering around our table... too many interuptions, intrusive behavior and disturbances by the staff. I honestly do not need, or want, to have my water glass re-filled every time I take a sip of water !! I also do not need, or want, every item removed from my table the second it is no longer needed (a dirty napkin, a tiny cream container that is empty, etc.). Their staff really needs more training.

Delicious...we have never been disappointed with a meal. I always order the chicken schnitzel. Perfectly cooked. They offer differenent sauces and I like the lemon caper sauce. My husband had ham because it was Easter and said it was very good. The fresh green beans and potato pancakes along with a German beer made a delightful dinner.

I took my parents here for dinner as we are all big fans of German food. We all decided to order the combination platter, since we all enjoy each of the items on it. Everything about the experience was outstanding. The food was excelled. All of the staff were friendly, prompt and courteous, including the manager, the waitress, the busboy, etc. I will definitely make this a regular dinner stop.

This is a pretty good place if you like German food and beer. We have been there four times and are going again tonight. Good schnitzel and some good platters. Never really been disappointed with service or food. So why three stars only? I think it is expensive for what you get. The bill is always 70-80 bucks for a shared appetizer, a couple of schnitzels and one or two beers each. If the bill was more like $50-60 I would give this four stars.

The first time ever trying German food and there was the nine of us. The place was packed - so glad we made reservations. The rolls come out soft and warm which is a plus because I absolutely hate cold, hard as a rock dinner rolls. Our waitress was very helpful when answering our questions because we have never tried German food before. One of my friends and I opted to share since the all the plates at the other tables looked huge and because we totally ruined our appetites earlier by having an early dessert :) Entree (one of the Specials): Roasted Young Duckling L'Orange with side of potato pancake and vegetable of the day (creamed spinach). Glad we shared because it was a big portion. It smelled delicious when the dish arrived at our table! The duck was tender and juicy. The sauce was delicious and not overly sweet. There was plenty of duck for my friend and I and for the rest of the table to try - it was not only skin and bones like at most restaurants. The potato pancake was delicious - kind of reminded me of hash browns but better. Definitely try it with the applesauce if you haven't before. I prefer it with the applesauce. The creamed spinach was meh. My friend didn't really enjoy the creamed spinach, wishing it was creamier. I personally don't care for cooked spinach, but I could eat it. Alas, we could not make it to the dessert menu... maybe next time!

The BEST bratwurst anywhere, and I'm not a big bratwurst fan - not usually something I would order at a restaurant, but the bratwurst at Fritzl'ls is melt in your mouth fantastic. The schnitzel with the paprika sauce is also very good! I ordered the pork once, and the 2nd time had the veal for $3 extra - couldn't tell the difference, so stick with the pork and save a few bucks. Big portions.

I have been coming to this place for over ten years. This place is really good and its the only place in the northwest suburbs that I know of with authentic German cuisine

Not bad but seemed to miss the mark. I had the rouladen which was not very flavourful and drenched in gravy. the Spatzle were nice, but the dish lacked seasoning. My wife had a chicken schnitzel sandwich which was good but kinda pricey for what it was. Our friend had the venison in a port reduction. Nice flavor but overcooked. Not bad German, but frankly I think Deeters in Woodstock is better. I sure miss Zum Deuchen Eck,

This is my favorite German restaurant, very cozy, great food. I love their shnizel and goulash. If you are looking for the value the best bet is to get the combination platter. The plate is more than enough for two people to share. Beefstroganoff is also great. Would recommend it to pair with a glass of cold Spaten.

This restaurant is a joke! It's overrated by the yelpers! 5 stars? Come on, too bad I don't another option to yelp them zero star, this place is the worst restaurant that I've been to in North suburb area. First, this restaurant atmosphere is pretty bad, when I stepped into the dining room I thought I was in some 70's restaurant, nothing that look like German style! Second, service was terrible, they seated us for at least 10 minutes waiting for our server to order our food, gosh there were not even busy at all! Third, food was really horrible, beer selection is limited and they did not have the beer list, anyway I got some German beer from tap but its came out so warm, we ordered some German pancakes, no way I tried some authentic German pancakes before they cannot fool me around, pancake wasn't flavour at all and its' undercooked, I guess the hash browns from Denny's is even better than that! I got some beef from their menu and when it's arrived on my table, sorry I have to say it's really turn me off before I put it in my mouth, sauce was so thick and the beef taste very bad, it's uneatable! sides were bad too their dumpling was very bad, they were extremely overpriced their menu, with this kind of low quality of food you need to pay 80 bucks for two persons?? I bet you can get a better food from Omega! One thing I only like was their liver dumpling soup, taste was rich but sorry in general, I only can give them one star!

LOVE IT! Always have but love it even more now that we live down the street from this wonderful European restaurant. HUGE combination platters at very reasonable prices ($17 including soup or salad). I honestly think that two people with average appetites could share one platter, add a soup or salad, and they would leave with full bellies. I personally wouldn't be able to share my meal with anybody. I want it all for me! :) Therefore, I'm never able to have their dessert. A glass of good German tap beer to go with it (love their Dab) and I'm VERY satisfied. Enjoy!

The wife and I spent a nice evening without our 3 year old and thoroughly enjoyed Fritzl's The beer was excellent, the food was simply wonderful. We both enjoyed the sampler platter (not sure what they call it) The soup was excellent, the sauerkraut and red cabbage were fabulous as was the rest of the meal. Service was excellent and friendly. We will be back.

Much like several of the earlier reviewers, I found this to be a throwback - an 80's restaurant, but with modern prices up there with the income of the nearby "Barrington's". The service was very good this past Saturday night at prime time (for them); we were seated promptly without reservations in a packed dining room, and the matronly waitress was a bit abrupt at first, but very competent - and she warmed up as the meal progressed. The dark beer ($6) is great. I had the "German Combination" ($20) and my wife had the weekend special Hungarian Duck ($19). Dinners no longer come with soup/salad as mentioned by others- that's a $3+ extra now. My entree was a gigantic platter of German specialties with matching sides - essentially 4 half dinners in one. Most were fair to pretty good, but except for the sausages, none really excelled. The sauerkraut, spaetzle and red cabbage were authentic. My wife found the Duck to be overdone, and it caused her stomach distress later on all night. The place was loaded with the "country gentry" from the horsey areas nearby, many in large groups, and the attire was quite varied - lots of 70 year old guys in faded jeans, but also some elegant women's wear on their mates! It had been decades since I was there before, and little had changed. Recommended for a refresher in German cooking, but it isn't a keeper on a regular basis.

This is by far my very favorite German restaurant. It's probably considered Continental, but it's German to me. The sauerbratin is the best I've had since my father used to make it from scratch. Took him about 4-5 days. Couldn't get the kotoffelklasse (sp?) he used to make, a riced, boiled potato dumpling, but the bread dumpling was almost as good. The liver dumpling soup is not the best I've had, but it's adequate. My second favorite entree is the rouladin, which I make myself and it's every bit as good as my own. The ambience is superb and the wait staff very professional and attentive. This just might be my favorite restaurant. In fact, when my friends asked me where I wanted to go for my 65th birthday, this is the restaurant I chose, and I wasn't sorry. I tend to have an enormous appetite and Fritzl's doesn't disappoint.

My girlfriend and I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon this past summer. We knew that this place was fairly nice because we'd checked out the menu ahead of time. I had the Jaeger Schnitzel and she the Sauerbraten. Both were excellent although the sauerbraten could have had a larger portion. The Spaetzel was excellent and the wine selection varied but uninspiring. I would recommend Fritzl's as a great local place for a quiet dinner of good solid german food. Oh, and plan to stay for at least 1.25 hours because they take their sweet time.

This place is awesome. My wife and I eat here all the time and have never had a bad experience. Everything on the menus is awesome, I believe I have had everything, and filling. Booze flows like water over the niagara falls and is reasonably priced.

Fantastic German food. I've heard they make their own saurkraut in the basement. Love their steak tartar and their goulash.

About TGI Friday

TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. TGI Friday also offers gluten-free items on its menu for those with gluten intolerance.

Besides the cool name, TGI Friday also has an interesting background story of its origin. The founder of the restaurant Alan Stillman lived in a New York-based neighbourhood full of a young crowd, especially girls from the airline and fashion industry. He started the first TGI Friday restaurant in New York in the hope of meeting single women as there weren't any such public place for young men and women to meet. He invested $5000 on his own and borrowed another $5000 from his mother to buy a bar named The Good Tavern and renamed the premise to Thank God It's Friday, inspired from an expression during his time at Bucknell University.
